These visits were very beneficial to enhancing our knowledge and providing an opportunity to understand and use our NAWCC member benefits. It doesnt offer the certification the LWT does but I was thinking that sometime in the future I could apply to one of these more. We used the library to research and date our clocks. Ive applied to two schools so far being LWT (Lititz Watch Technicum) and Gem City School of Horology, there isnt really a lot of info on Gem City and im wondering if its a solid choice for going into the field. We also visited the museum’s collections area and discussed clockmaking with the NAWCC Executive Director. The mentorship exceeded my expectations! We learned clock disassembly, cleaning, spring removal, oiling springs, pivot polishing and burnishing on a lathe, inspection, reassembly, lubrication, putting a clock into beat, and regulation. ![]() Review of Mentorship in Clockmaking: “I came from New Mexico, hoping to refine self-taught skills and learn some new ones. Hope that our schedules allow me to take something else with you.” -Joe I was a little worried before we started about how you could fill up the 8 hours, but the time (pun intended) just flew by.
